Welcome to the very first edition of the Corinna Felker 'Drive Fore' Cancer newsletter. We hope this will be the first of many. The CFDFCF Foundation began in May of 1994 after a very special young lady lost her courageous battle with cancer. We know how cancer has impacted our lives so we decided to see if we could make a difference in the lives of other families who had a loved one suffering with this awful disease. So began our foundation and our mission.

On September 11, 2004 we hosted the First Annual Golf Classic in Moses Lake WA. What a turnout we had. There were 26 teams of four that participated. The format was a scramble and a great time was had by all. Dinner and prizes followed. This was followed by a children's day on September 12th at the Big Bend Golf Course in Wilbur WA. There was a teen scramble in the morning followed by lunch. Then the chip, putt and drive contest started at one. All of the children (and parents) had a great time. Every child received prizes and ice cream. On October 31st we hosted our first annual spaghetti feed at the community center in Almira WA. Everyone who wanted came dressed in there best Halloween costumes. The kids participated in a cake walk, put on by the cheerleaders and other volunteers. At dark the kids geared up for an evening of trick or treating. We had a great time and raised money for our foundation at the same time. I would like to share a little information about the foundation with you. Everyone who is involved in this organization is a volunteer. All of the prizes are donated by businesses and individuals like you. We offer a patient care grant at least once a year with the money we raise from these events. This money goes to individuals who are suffering with cancer. Our mission is to serve as a memorial fund providing: 1) support to other public charities in cancer research, 2) cancer related education, and 3) support to individuals and families with cancer in our regional area. Our area covers all of Lincoln and Grant county and all adjacent counties. Since our inception we have raised approximately $46,000 dollars and helped many families in a time of need. We couldn't have done any of this without your support and donations. So from all of us THANK YOU so very much. But we aren't finished, we will continue our fight until cancer is wiped out for good.

FYI: The American Cancer Society released their cancer statistics for 2008. They estimate that there will be 1,437,180 new cancer cases and 565,650 deaths from cancer in the United States in 2008. Currently one in four deaths in the United States is due to cancer. These are staggering numbers.
